Official Public Notice: Infrastructure Updates and Health Advisories
Roadway and Transportation Alerts
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) and Louisville Metro Public Works have announced several infrastructure updates and traffic restrictions affecting local travel on Sunday, March 8, 2026. Residents and visitors are encouraged to plan their routes accordingly to avoid delays.
- I-64 East Overnight Closures: Alternating lane closures are scheduled for I-64 East from mile marker 53 (near U.S. 127) to mile marker 58 (near U.S. 60). These closures will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, and are expected to remain in place until 6:00 a.m. Monday morning. Motorists are advised to exercise caution and heed all posted signage within the work zone.
- Rudy Lane Corridor: Rudy Lane remains closed to through-traffic between Brownsboro Road and Merrifield Road for an essential water main relocation project. This closure is currently projected to continue through April 11, 2026.
- I-65 Central Corridor: Phase 1 of the $150 million bridge replacement project continues to impact traffic flow on I-65 between Jefferson Street and the Watterson Expressway. Drivers should anticipate intermittent lane restrictions and reduced capacity.
- Additional Long-Term Closures: Mockingbird Valley Road and Edith Road remain closed between River Road and Mellwood Avenue for bridge deck reconstruction. Furthermore, reconstruction work continues on KY 1819 (Billtown Road), and the superstructure replacement on KY 1526 (Bells Mill Road) at the bridge over Floyds Fork remains active.
Public Health and Safety Advisories
The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness (LMPHW) maintains several active advisories to ensure community safety during the spring season.
- Respiratory Illness Surge: A high-priority advisory remains in effect following a significant spike in seasonal respiratory illnesses across Jefferson County. Surveillance data confirms elevated activity for influenza, COVID-19, and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). Health officials urge residents to stay current on vaccinations and isolate immediately if symptoms of respiratory distress or fever occur.
- Varicella (Chickenpox) Monitoring: Local health officials continue to monitor an uptick in varicella cases. Residents are reminded that chickenpox is highly contagious; those infected must remain isolated until all blisters have fully scabbed over to prevent community transmission.
- Severe Weather Preparedness: Regional alerts for Indiana’s Severe Weather Awareness Week begin today, March 8. While Kentucky’s official week concluded yesterday, Louisville residents are encouraged to remain vigilant, verify their emergency alert systems, and review household safety plans in preparation for spring storm patterns.
Environment and Urban Development
- Air Pollution Control Notice: The Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control District has opened a 30-day public comment period regarding a construction permit for Caldwell Tanks, Inc., at 4000 Tower Road. The proposed permit covers the installation of an abrasive blasting system. Public comments will be accepted through April 6, 2026.
- Metro Career Fair: Louisville Metro Government will host a major career fair on Tuesday, March 10, at Louisville Slugger Field. Over 25 departments, including Public Works and Health and Wellness, will be on-site to discuss more than 55 vacant positions within the municipal government.
