Public Notice: Spring Health Advisories and Infrastructure Updates

Public Health Alert: Respiratory Virus Surge and Varicella Monitoring
The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness has issued a high-priority health advisory as seasonal respiratory illnesses reach peak levels across Jefferson County. Surveillance data for the current season confirms that influenza cases have surpassed 11,600, with over 45 documented outbreaks in local schools and congregate care facilities. Additionally, health officials report more than 4,300 confirmed cases of COVID-19, alongside elevated activity for Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) and pertussis (whooping cough).
A specific alert remains active regarding varicella (chickenpox) following more than 30 reported cases. Residents are reminded that chickenpox is highly contagious; infected individuals must remain isolated until all blisters have fully scabbed over. Health officials urge all residents to ensure vaccinations are up to date and to isolate immediately if exhibiting symptoms of respiratory distress or fever.
Infrastructure and Traffic Notifications
The Louisville Metro Department of Public Works and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet have several active projects impacting local commutes this week:

- Aiken Road: Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures and flagging operations on the westbound lane between 13113 Aiken Road and Avoca Road through April 1.
- Edith Road and Mockingbird Valley Road: Both routes remain closed between River Road and Mellwood Avenue for bridge deck reconstruction on the I-71 overpass. These closures are slated to remain in place through July 31, 2026.
- TARC Fare Updates: Residents are reminded that the Transit Authority of River City (TARC) implemented an updated fare schedule effective earlier this month. Passengers should review the new rates before boarding.
