Two Cardinals recognized as ACC releases its 2025-26 men’s basketball season honors

The Atlantic Coast Conference announced its 2025-26 men’s basketball postseason honors on Monday, March 9, naming Louisville guard Ryan Conwell to the All-ACC Second Team and freshman guard Mikel Brown Jr. to the All-ACC Third Team. Brown was also selected to the ACC All-Rookie Team.

The honors were released one day before the conference tournament is scheduled to begin in Charlotte, North Carolina. The All-ACC teams are determined by a league vote that assigns point totals across first-, second- and third-team ballots.

How Conwell and Brown fit into Louisville’s season story

Conwell’s second-team selection reflects a season in which he emerged as Louisville’s leading scorer and a consistent perimeter threat. His production has been central to Louisville’s offensive identity, particularly in games where spacing and late-clock shot creation were decisive factors.

Brown’s dual recognition—third-team all-conference and all-rookie—highlights the impact of a first-year player who took on a primary ball-handling role early. In addition to his scoring, Brown’s season included playmaking responsibilities and on-ball defensive assignments more typical of experienced guards.

Record-setting performance helped define Brown’s freshman campaign

Brown authored one of the ACC’s most notable single-game performances of the season on Feb. 9, 2026, when he scored 45 points in a 118–77 win over NC State. The total set an ACC freshman single-game scoring record while also tying Louisville’s program single-game scoring mark. In the same game, Conwell scored 31 points, making the pairing a rare high-output backcourt tandem on the same night.

ACC awards context and what comes next

The ACC’s season honors also included Duke freshman Cameron Boozer being voted both the league’s Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year, underscoring the conference’s freshman-driven narrative this season.

For Louisville, the individual awards arrive with postseason play immediately ahead. The conference tournament in Charlotte will provide the next data point for how Louisville’s backcourt—now formally recognized among the ACC’s top performers—translates regular-season production into tournament outcomes.

  • Ryan Conwell: All-ACC Second Team
  • Mikel Brown Jr.: All-ACC Third Team; ACC All-Rookie Team

ACC postseason honors are determined through league voting, with separate recognition for all-conference and all-rookie selections.
