Public Notice: Tornado Safety Drill and Official City Roundup for March 4

Annual Statewide Tornado Drill Scheduled for 10:07 A.M.
Louisville Metro Emergency Services and the Office of Mayor Craig Greenberg have announced that the annual statewide tornado safety drill will take place today, Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at approximately 10:07 a.m. EST. As part of Kentucky Severe Weather Awareness Week, outdoor warning sirens will sound across Jefferson County, and weather alert radios will be activated. Residents are encouraged to treat this as a live event by identifying their designated safe rooms and reviewing emergency communication plans. A test alert will also be pushed to mobile devices via the LENSAlert platform to ensure system readiness for the upcoming spring storm season.
Public Health Advisory: Respiratory Illness Surge and Mental Health Workshop
The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness continues to monitor a high-priority health advisory due to a significant increase in respiratory illnesses, including influenza, RSV, and COVID-19. Health officials also report an uptick in varicella (chickenpox) cases among unvaccinated populations. In addition to medical advisories, the department is hosting a free Mental Health Workshop today at 11:00 a.m. in the first-floor conference room at 400 E. Gray St. The session, led by Licensed Clinical Social Worker Kelsey Traughber, is open to the public and focuses on resources for work-life balance and emotional well-being.
Development Review Committee: Dixie Highway Projects
The Development Review Committee (DRC) will convene today at 1:00 p.m. at the Old Jail Auditorium, located at 514 W. Liberty St. This afternoon’s agenda includes significant land-use discussions for Southwest Louisville. Key cases involve a proposed Chick-fil-A location at 9718 Dixie Highway and a new Wawa site at 13620 Dixie Highway. The committee will review requests for parking waivers and development plan approvals. Residents may attend the hearing in person or participate virtually through the city’s official digital meeting platform.
Final Call for Public Comments
Today marks the deadline for two major public engagement initiatives in the Metro area:
- Outer Loop Transportation Study: Feedback on potential highway safety and mobility enhancements for the KY 1065 corridor between I-65 and Shepherdsville Road must be submitted by the close of business.
- Air Pollution Control District: Written comments regarding the proposed Agreed Board Order with Lanning Chemical Company, Inc. are due by 5:00 p.m. today. These comments pertain to reported violations of operating permits at the Griffiths Avenue facility.
Participation in these notices ensures that resident voices are included in the final reports and legislative decisions for the current fiscal quarter.
