Two victims found after overnight Camp Taylor shooting; Louisville police open homicide investigation and seek public tips

Police locate two shooting victims in separate nearby locations
Louisville Metro Police are investigating an overnight shooting that left one person dead and another hospitalized in critical condition in the Camp Taylor neighborhood.
Police said emergency calls reporting gunfire in the 1600 block of Orchard Avenue came in just after midnight on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026. While dispatchers were receiving those reports, callers also indicated a person was down several blocks away near a business in the 4200 block of Poplar Level Road.
What investigators say happened at the scene
Responding officers found a man lying on the ground who had been shot multiple times in the torso. Police said he was transported to University of Louisville Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
As officers worked to secure the area, they located a nearby vehicle that had been struck by gunfire. Police said a second victim was found inside that vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Louisville Metro Police Homicide Unit is leading the investigation. Police have not publicly identified either victim, and no suspect description or arrest was announced in the initial briefing.
