What happened

Louisville Metro Police are investigating a shooting that left two men wounded Friday, Oct. 25, 2024, in and near the St. Denis neighborhood, an area on the city’s southwest side near Cane Run Road. One of the victims later died at the hospital, while the second remained hospitalized in serious condition.

Police said officers were called shortly after 6:15 p.m. to the 3100 block of Melody Acres Lane, a residential street off Cane Run Road near Rockford Lane. When officers arrived, they located a man suffering from gunshot wounds. A second man with gunshot wounds was also located nearby at a Marathon gas station at the corner of Cane Run Road and Rockford Lane. Both were transported to UofL Hospital for treatment.

Victims’ conditions and investigative status

Investigators said the man found on Melody Acres Lane was transported in critical condition and later died at the hospital. The second man, found near the gas station, was reported in serious condition. Police have not released the victims’ names, ages or other identifying details in the information available so far.

The department indicated the two shootings were being treated as related. No suspect information, description of a vehicle, or details about a possible motive were released in the initial public briefing.
