Morning Commute Overview

Louisville commuters are facing a slower start this Monday, February 2, 2026, as the city continues to deal with the lingering effects of recent winter weather. Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) have implemented a two-hour delay today, citing icy conditions on neighborhood side streets and untreated secondary roads. While major interstates have been largely cleared, drivers should remain cautious of black ice during the early morning hours, particularly on ramps and overpasses.

Interstate Maintenance and Snow Removal

Crews are scheduled to continue cleanup operations on major arteries throughout the day. Commuters using the East End Crossing should be aware of the following:

  • I-265 (Gene Snyder Freeway): Maintenance crews will be performing snow removal on the eastbound and westbound shoulders between mile markers 32.8 and 38.5. This work is scheduled from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Motorists are advised to move over and reduce speed when approaching slow-moving maintenance vehicles.
  • I-64 Bridge Replacement: Work continues near Exit 10 (Cannons Lane) and the I-264 interchange (Exit 12). While traffic is currently in its final configuration, intermittent lane closures are possible throughout the day as crews finalize bridge replacement items.

Major Road Closures and Detours

Several local road projects and weather-related issues may disrupt standard travel routes today:

  • Blevins Gap Road: A significant portion of the roadway near Saw Mill Road remains closed for a culvert replacement project. This closure is expected to last through late March. Drivers should use the Gene Snyder Freeway (I-265/KY 841) as a detour, accessing the area via the Dixie Highway or Stonestreet Road exits.
  • Lexington Road: The 1300 block of Lexington Road near Payne Street has seen restricted access due to a recent water main rupture and resulting slick conditions. Repair crews remain on-site to stabilize the area.
  • NuLu Restrictions: Bike lanes from 400 to 1000 East Market Street, as well as segments of Baxter Avenue, may remain obstructed by snow piles from recent clearing efforts.

TARC and Public Transit

The Transit Authority of River City (TARC) reports that all routes are currently operating on regular schedules. However, due to the JCPS delay and icy conditions on narrow neighborhood streets, some minor delays are expected on local routes during the morning peak. Riders are encouraged to monitor real-time tracking apps for the most current bus arrival times.

Safety Reminder

With temperatures hovering near freezing, please allow extra time for your morning travel. Increased traffic is expected around mid-morning as school buses and late-starting commuters hit the road simultaneously. Ensure your vehicle is fully cleared of snow and ice before departing.
