Transportation and Infrastructure Advisories

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has issued a major traffic advisory for the downtown area affecting travel across the Ohio River. Starting Friday evening and continuing through 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2026, contract crews will be implementing rolling roadblocks and lane closures on Interstate 65 South at the Kennedy Bridge. During this period, southbound traffic will be reduced to the right two lanes to facilitate a transition into the final phase of bridge work. Motorists are advised to expect significant delays and should consider using the Clark Memorial (Second Street) Bridge or the Lewis and Clark (East End) Bridge as alternatives. Following this transition, the ramp from I-65 South to I-64 West is scheduled to reopen.

Local commuters should also remain aware of ongoing long-term closures. Rudy Lane remains closed between Brownsboro Road and Merrifield Road for a water main relocation project, with a projected completion date in April. Additionally, a segment of Blevins Gap Road near Saw Mill Road is currently closed for a culvert replacement. Detour signs are posted for both areas.

Public Health and Wellness

The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness is maintaining a high-level advisory due to a significant seasonal surge in respiratory viruses. Surveillance data indicates that confirmed influenza cases in Jefferson County have surpassed 1,300 for the season, alongside rising instances of RSV and pertussis (whooping cough). Health officials strongly urge residents to ensure vaccinations are up to date and to practice frequent handwashing. Those exhibiting symptoms of illness are advised to stay home and utilize masking in high-traffic congregate settings to mitigate community spread.

In addition to health services, the city continues to promote the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Celebrating its 25th anniversary in Louisville, the program offers free tax preparation services for eligible low-to-moderate-income residents. Various sites across the city are active this weekend; residents can contact Metro311 for location and eligibility details.

Community Grants and Public Comment Periods

Several critical municipal deadlines are approaching this week. Organizations interested in the Fiscal Year 2027 External Agency Fund (EAF) must submit their applications through the Metro grant portal by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24. These grants support local nonprofits focusing on arts, culture, and social services. Furthermore, the '250 Lou Grants,' aimed at celebrating the city’s historic milestones, will accept applications until February 27.

The Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control District (APCD) reminds the public that the 30-day comment period regarding an Agreed Board Order with Lanning Chemical Company is currently open. Written comments are being accepted through March 4. This order addresses alleged violations of federally enforceable operating permits and is part of the city’s commitment to environmental oversight.

Bilingual Neighborhood Meeting

On Saturday evening, February 21, the Hazelwood Neighborhood Association will host a community meeting from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Temple of Faith, located at 1703 Bicknell Avenue. This session will be conducted in both English and Spanish to ensure full accessibility for the Spanish-speaking community. The meeting will focus on upcoming neighborhood cleanup efforts and local safety initiatives.
