Transportation and Infrastructure Updates

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) and Louisville Metro Public Works have issued several active travel advisories for Sunday, February 22, 2026. Motorists should be aware of new and ongoing road closures affecting major corridors and neighborhood routes.

  • I-64 Overnight Lane Closures: Beginning at 7:00 p.m. tonight, Sunday, February 22, contract crews will initiate overnight lane closures on Interstate 64 between mile marker 53 and mile marker 58. These closures are necessary for storm drain cleaning and bridge repair work as part of the ongoing I-64 improvement project. One lane will remain open in both directions, and work is expected to conclude by 6:00 a.m. Monday morning.
  • Rudy Lane Closure: Rudy Lane remains closed to through traffic between Brownsboro Road and Merrifield Road. This closure, which supports a critical Louisville Water Company water main relocation, is scheduled to remain in effect through April 11, 2026. Detour signage is posted.
  • Aiken Road Flagging: Intermittent lane closures continue on Aiken Road between Avoca Road and 13113 Aiken Road. Flaggers will be on-site to manage traffic during daytime hours for a drainage improvement project.
  • Mockingbird Valley Road: A total closure remains in place on Mockingbird Valley Road and Edith Road between River Road and Mellwood Avenue for the I-71 overpass reconstruction. This closure is expected to last through July 2026.

Public Health Advisory: Respiratory Virus Surge

The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness has issued a formal advisory following a significant surge in seasonal respiratory illnesses across Jefferson County. Surveillance data indicates that confirmed influenza cases have surpassed 1,300 for the current season, alongside elevated levels of RSV and pertussis (whooping cough).

Health officials strongly urge residents to ensure vaccinations are up to date and to practice preventive measures. Individuals experiencing symptoms of illness are advised to stay home from work or school and to utilize masking in high-traffic congregate settings to mitigate community spread.

Metro Council and Community Deadlines

Louisville Metro Government highlights several upcoming deadlines for civic participation and community funding:

  • External Agency Fund (EAF) Grants: The application window for the Fiscal Year 2027 External Agency Fund closes this Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Non-profit organizations specializing in social services or neighborhood revitalization are encouraged to complete their submissions through the Metro grant portal.
  • Air Pollution Control District (APCD): A 30-day public comment period is currently open regarding a proposed Board Order with Lanning Chemical Company. Written comments will be accepted through March 4, 2026.
  • Anti-Displacement Commission: The commission is scheduled to hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, February 24, at 3:00 p.m. in the Old Jail Courtroom. The public is invited to attend and provide feedback on housing stability initiatives.
