Emergency Winter Storm Warning: Major Accumulation Expected

Louisville Metro Government has issued an emergency public service announcement following a Winter Storm Warning from the National Weather Service, effective from 7:00 a.m. Saturday, February 7, through 7:00 a.m. Monday, February 9, 2026. Forecasters are predicting a historic weather event for Jefferson County, with snowfall totals estimated between 12 and 15 inches. Residents are urged to avoid all non-essential travel during this period to allow emergency crews to operate safely.

  • Snow Removal Operations: The Louisville Metro Snow Team is actively treating 111 designated snow routes. For the 2025-2026 season, the city has deployed 23 additional plow routes and hired external contractors to assist with clearing major corridors, including Dixie Highway, Bardstown Road, and Preston Highway.
  • Parking Restrictions: Residents are directed to move vehicles off primary snow routes immediately to facilitate curb-to-curb plowing. Vehicles remaining on emergency routes may be subject to towing.
  • Safety Precautions: Public Works officials advise keeping at least three days of non-perishable food and water. If you must shovel, do not push snow back into the roadway or onto public sidewalks.

Public Health Advisory: Flu and Pertussis Trends

The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness has released its February health report, noting a significant increase in respiratory illnesses across the metro area. According to the Influenza Surveillance Dashboard, there have been over 1,364 reported flu cases since the start of the season, with multiple outbreaks identified in congregate settings and schools. Additionally, health officials are monitoring a rise in Pertussis (whooping cough) cases. Residents are encouraged to stay up to date on vaccinations and practice frequent handwashing to mitigate the spread of these viruses.

Air Pollution Control District: Public Comment Period
