Official Louisville City Notice: Health Advisories and Community Engagement Updates

Public Health Alert: Respiratory Surge and Severe Weather Awareness
The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness has issued a high-priority health advisory effective through the first week of March 2026. Surveillance data indicates a significant increase in seasonal respiratory illnesses across Jefferson County, with influenza cases surpassing 11,600 and a concurrent rise in RSV and pertussis infections. Residents are also advised of a monitoring alert for varicella (chickenpox) following over 30 reported cases. Health officials urge the public to remain current on vaccinations and isolate immediately if symptoms such as fever or cough occur.
Additionally, Mayor Craig Greenberg has designated March 1–7, 2026, as Severe Weather Awareness Week. This coordinated effort encourages all households, schools, and businesses to review emergency plans for spring storms and tornadoes. Residents are encouraged to download the free LouReady App for real-time alerts and safety checklists.
Public Meeting: Future of the Historic Ashanti House
Councilwoman Tammy Hawkins (D-1), in partnership with the Office of Housing and Community Development, invites the community to the second public discussion regarding the future of the historic firehouse known as Ashanti House. This session is scheduled for tonight, Friday, March 6, 2026, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Southwick Community Center (3621 Southern Avenue). The city has recently appropriated $1 million in the FY26 budget for the renovation of this Parkland neighborhood landmark, which is intended to be revitalized into a dedicated community and nonprofit space.
Infrastructure and Planning Updates
The Louisville Metro Department of Transportation reminds residents that today, March 6, 2026, is the final day to participate in the Freight Mobility Action Plan survey. Feedback collected will help prioritize safer truck routes and reduce neighborhood disruptions. Regarding local travel, the following major advisories remain in effect:
- Rudy Lane Closure: The corridor remains closed to through-traffic between Brownsboro Road and Merrifield Road for a water main relocation. This closure is expected to continue through April 11, 2026.
- River Road Construction: The Louisville Water Company’s Residual Line Project continues to impact the corridor from E. Witherspoon Street to Eva Bandman Park, with work projected to last through summer 2026.
- Data Center Development: Following a vote on March 5, the Louisville Planning Commission has approved a new site plan for a hyper-scale data center on Camp Ground Road.
