Public Alert: Weather-Related School and Service Adjustments
Due to ongoing winter weather conditions and safety concerns regarding morning visibility, Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) has announced a two-hour delay for all campuses on Monday, February 2, 2026. This delay is intended to ensure students are not waiting for buses or walking to school in the dark during slick conditions. Under this schedule, schools normally starting at 7:30 a.m. will begin at 9:30 a.m., 8:40 a.m. starts will move to 10:40 a.m., and 9:40 a.m. starts will move to 11:40 a.m. Early Childhood classes are officially canceled for the day. However, all dismissal times and after-school extracurricular activities are currently expected to proceed as originally scheduled.
Infrastructure and Road Maintenance Advisories
The Louisville Metro Department of Public Works and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet have issued several active notices for Monday, February 2:
- Lexington Road: A ruptured fire hydrant has caused localized flooding and slick road conditions in the 1300 block. The road remains closed between Axis and Payne Street while Louisville Water crews finalize repairs.
- Blevins Gap Road: A major culvert replacement project continues near Saw Mill Road. A portion of the roadway is closed to through traffic, with a signed detour utilizing the Gene Snyder Freeway (I-265). Local access is maintained.
- Chenoweth Lane (KY 1932): Contract crews are mobilizing today for roadway and sidewalk improvements between Shelbyville Road and Brownsboro Road. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures and flagging operations from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily.
- Winter Closures: The NuLu bike lanes on East Market Street and segments of Baxter Avenue remain closed until further notice due to snow accumulation.
Public Health Notice: Respiratory Virus Surge
The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness is advising residents of a significant rise in respiratory illnesses across Jefferson County. Health officials have noted a particular spike in Pertussis (whooping cough) cases, reaching levels not seen in the region since 2012. Additionally, influenza activity is currently high, with multiple outbreaks reported in congregate settings, including schools and long-term care facilities. The department strongly encourages residents to stay up-to-date on vaccinations and to remain home if they exhibit symptoms of a respiratory infection.
Government Meetings and Community Grants
The Board of Zoning Adjustment will hold a public hearing today, February 2, to review conditional use permit applications for 7801 Delightful Way. Furthermore, the Louisville Metro Office of Resilience and Community Services is currently accepting applications for the External Agency Fund (EAF). Non-profit organizations seeking HUD grant funding for the 2027 fiscal year must submit their proposals via the official subrecipient portal by February 24, 2026.
