Public Health Alert: Respiratory Virus Update

The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness has issued a health advisory regarding a significant rise in respiratory illnesses. Recent data indicates a steady increase in influenza cases across Jefferson County, with over 1,300 reported cases since the start of the season. Additionally, health officials are monitoring a rise in pertussis (whooping cough) cases. Parents and caregivers are reminded that vaccination remains the most effective defense against these illnesses, particularly for infants and the elderly. The department urges residents to stay home if they exhibit symptoms such as severe coughing or fever to help break the chain of transmission.

Environmental Notice: Air Pollution Control District

The Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control District (APCD) has opened a formal 30-day public comment period beginning this week. The notice concerns a proposed Agreed Board Order with Lanning Chemical Company, Inc. regarding alleged violations of District Regulation 2.17. The public is invited to submit written comments through March 4, 2026. This process is a critical component of the city's commitment to air quality and industrial oversight.
