A neighborhood park receives updated play features

Hounz Lane Park, a 20.5-acre Louisville Metro park at 2300 Hounz Lane, has opened newly installed playground equipment that adds toddler-focused structures and expands the park’s family amenities. The park, acquired in 1958, is the only Metro park within Louisville Metro Council District 17.

The new play area includes an explorer dome, swings, and structures geared toward children ages two to five. The equipment joins existing features that include a large shelter, a multi-purpose field, and a creek that runs through the property.

Part of a broader package of park improvements

The playground installation is one element of a broader set of upgrades discussed in district-level Metro communications over the past two years. Planning for the park included additional lighting along the road that runs through the park and around the circular parking lot. Separate work has also addressed the park’s shelter facility after storm-related damage required a roof replacement.

Hounz Lane Park’s amenities have been expanded and maintained through multiple rounds of improvements over time, including a picnic shelter, additional parking, new trees, and stabilization work along the creek bank. The site also includes pickleball courts, reflecting a wider shift across Louisville parks toward multi-use recreation options.

How the new playground fits into citywide parks investment

The opening at Hounz Lane Park comes amid continuing investment in parks and public space across Louisville, where projects have ranged from upgrades to long-established facilities to construction of new neighborhood parks. Recent work elsewhere has included modernization projects such as restroom and court renovations at Long Run Park, as well as new and expanded park amenities in other parts of the city.

Within District 17, the Hounz Lane upgrades are part of a pattern of targeted improvements meant to refresh older neighborhood parks and broaden the range of age-appropriate recreation. By focusing the new equipment on younger children, the park’s play options align with families seeking closer-to-home outdoor activities.
