Performance and Competitive Storytelling

The standout event for this evening is undoubtedly The Moth StorySLAM, which takes center stage at Headliners Music Hall. Originally slated for late January but rescheduled due to winter weather, the competition is officially back on for tonight, Tuesday, February 3. This open-mic storytelling event invites participants to share five-minute, true personal stories based on a specific theme. It is a hallmark of the local arts scene, offering a platform for raw and authentic narratives. Doors are set to open at 7:00 PM, with the first stories beginning at 8:00 PM. For those who prefer to listen rather than speak, it remains one of the city's most engaging and unpredictable nights of live entertainment.

Culture and Black History Month Observances

Louisville continues its celebration of Black History Month with several community-focused events today. The Louisville Free Public Library’s Shawnee Branch is hosting a special Black History Read-Aloud starting at 6:00 PM. During this session, library staff and community members will read excerpts from authors who have been honored with the Coretta Scott King Book Awards. It is an excellent opportunity for residents to gather and reflect on the profound impact of African American literature and history.

Theater and Family Engagement

Earlier in the day, the city’s youth and families have access to high-quality theatrical programs. At 10:30 AM, the Kentucky Shakespeare troupe will be at the Shawnee Branch library to present "Fairy Tales from Around the World." This interactive performance brings global myths and legends to life through the troupe's energetic and educational acting style. It is a fantastic way to introduce children to the world of performance art outside of a traditional theater setting.

Simultaneously, the Fairdale Branch Library is hosting a unique "Spin and Skate Storytime" at 10:30 AM featuring author Brittany J. Thurman. This session blends literacy with physical movement, providing a dynamic morning for toddlers and preschoolers. Neighborhood storytimes are also scheduled for 10:30 AM at the Newburg and Middletown branches, ensuring accessible community meetups for families throughout the metro area.

Community Services and Meetups

Beyond the arts, the library system is facilitating important community support today. The Shawnee Branch is offering AARP Tax Preparation assistance from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM for those needing help navigating their seasonal filings. Additionally, the Fairdale branch is offering "Computers by Appointment" starting at 11:00 AM, providing one-on-one digital literacy support for residents looking to improve their technical skills or complete online tasks.
