Shooting reported Saturday evening in west Louisville

A man was hospitalized Saturday, Feb. 14, 2026, after being shot in Louisville’s Portland neighborhood, prompting a police investigation near a Kroger store along North 35th Street.

Emergency calls about the shooting were received at about 5:46 p.m. Officers were sent to the 500 block of North 35th Street, where they located a man who had been shot in the leg. Police and emergency medical personnel provided care at the scene before the man was transported to UofL Hospital.

Authorities said the man’s injuries were considered non-life-threatening and that he is expected to survive.

Scene secured near store entrance; location of shooting still being clarified

Police established a taped-off perimeter that included the entrance area of a Kroger store in the immediate vicinity. Investigators said it remained unclear Saturday night exactly where the shooting took place relative to the area that was cordoned off.

Officers did not identify a suspect and did not release a description of any vehicle possibly connected to the shooting. No arrests were announced as of Saturday night.

Investigation assigned to non-fatal shootings detectives

The case was assigned to detectives who handle non-fatal shooting investigations, as police continued working to determine the circumstances that led to the gunfire. Authorities have not released the victim’s name, age, or whether he had any known connection to a shooter.
