Fatal crash reported Monday night in eastern Jefferson County

A man died Monday evening after a single-vehicle crash on Taylorsville Road in Louisville, authorities said. Police were called to the 14000 block of Taylorsville Road near South Pope Lick Road at about 8:50 p.m. for a reported collision. When officers arrived, they found a vehicle that had struck a tree head-on.

Officers attempted to remove the driver but were unable to do so. Fire personnel extricated the man from the vehicle, and emergency medical crews pronounced him dead at the scene.

Driver identified; investigators outline preliminary witness accounts

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the driver as 42-year-old Clinton Anderson. Police said witness statements indicated Anderson was traveling westbound on Taylorsville Road when the vehicle crossed the center line, the driver lost control, the vehicle left the roadway and then hit a tree.

Police said there was only one vehicle involved. Investigators also reported that Anderson was not wearing a seat belt.

What is known, and what remains under investigation

The investigation is being handled by the Louisville Metro Police Department’s Traffic Unit. At this stage, authorities have not publicly released details such as the vehicle’s speed, whether impairment is suspected, whether roadway conditions contributed, or whether mechanical failure played any role. Police have described the circumstances based on initial observations and witness accounts, which are typically subject to confirmation as an investigation continues.

  • Location: 14000 block of Taylorsville Road near South Pope Lick Road

  • Time: Approximately 8:50 p.m., Monday

  • Crash type: Single-vehicle collision into a tree

  • Victim: Clinton Anderson, 42

Road safety context

Single-vehicle crashes that result in a vehicle leaving the roadway can stem from a range of factors, including driver error, distraction, medical emergencies, roadway geometry, visibility, and loss of control. In many fatal crashes, lack of seat belt use is a major contributor to the severity of injuries. Investigators typically review physical evidence at the scene, vehicle damage, and any available witness statements to determine how and why a vehicle departed the travel lane.

Authorities have not announced any additional vehicles involved and have not released further details beyond the preliminary account provided by witnesses.

The Traffic Unit’s investigation remained ongoing as of the latest public update.
