Major Lane Restrictions on US 42 and Local Road Closures Active This Saturday
Localized Delays Expected on US 42 and Rudy Lane This Weekend
Traffic across the Louisville Metro area is moving at a steady weekend pace this Saturday, February 21, 2026. However, several ongoing infrastructure projects and essential maintenance work are causing significant lane restrictions and full road closures in key corridors. Commuters and local residents should plan for extra travel time, especially in the East End and Southwest Jefferson County.
Major Arterial Impacts: I-264 and US 42
The I-264 and US 42 (Brownsboro Road) Improvement Project remains in a high-activity phase as crews work to transform the interchange. Motorists traveling through this area should expect the following impacts today:
- Eastbound US 42 is reduced to a single lane through the Rudy Lane intersection.
- The US 42 bridge over the Watterson Expressway has its lanes shifted to the south side to accommodate ongoing median removal and bridge widening activities.
- Southbound Rudy Lane has been reconfigured into a two-lane left turn setup. Extensive signage is in place to guide drivers through the intersection toward eastbound US 42.
Full Road Closures and Detours
Two significant local road closures are in effect today that may impact weekend travel plans:
- Rudy Lane: A total closure is in place between Brownsboro Road and Merrifield Road. This is part of a Louisville Water Company water main relocation project. This closure began earlier this month and is expected to remain in place through mid-April. Detour signs are posted to help guide motorists around the work zone.
- Blevins Gap Road: In Southwest Louisville, a portion of Blevins Gap Road near Saw Mill Road remains closed for a culvert replacement project. Through-traffic is being detoured to the Gene Snyder Freeway (I-265/Highway 841). Local access is maintained from both the Dixie Highway and Stonestreet Road ends, but the road is impassable at the specific work site.
Bridge and Interstate Updates
The Sherman Minton Renewal continues to move forward. While the bridge remains open to cross-river traffic, the maintenance plan ensures at least one lane in each direction is available. Drivers should stay alert for shifting patterns as the project moves through its final construction seasons. Additionally, while major closures on I-65 are not scheduled until the summer, motorists may encounter minor off-peak lane shifts as preliminary work for the Central Corridor Project continues.
Looking ahead, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has issued a traffic advisory for I-64. Starting Sunday night, February 22, overnight lane closures will begin in Franklin County for storm drain cleaning. If you are planning a late-night return trip from the Frankfort area tomorrow, expect delays between mile markers 53 and 58.
Public Transit (TARC) Status
The Transit Authority of River City (TARC) reports that all bus services are operating on regular schedules today. All winter weather detours that were active during recent snow events have been lifted. Additionally, TARC continues its annual Black History Month tribute, "Saving a Seat" on every bus in memory of Rosa Parks. Riders are encouraged to use real-time tracking tools for the most accurate departure information.
