Major Lane Reductions on I-65 South and Brownsboro Road Delays Today

Significant Impacts on I-65 South and Spaghetti Junction
Commuters navigating through downtown Louisville today, Tuesday, March 10, 2026, should anticipate significant delays on I-65 South. As part of the ongoing I-65 Central Corridor Project, I-65 South is currently reduced from three lanes to two during daytime hours, and further restricted to a single lane during the overnight window (7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.). These restrictions are concentrated just south of the I-64/I-65/I-71 interchange, locally known as Spaghetti Junction.
Two critical access points remain closed today and will continue to be offline through late March. These include:
- The I-65 South off-ramp to East St. Catherine Street (Exit 135).
- The I-65 South on-ramp from South First Street near East Jacob Street.
Contractors are currently performing micropiling work to stabilize foundations for the replacement of the Kentucky Street and Brook Street bridges. Motorists are advised to utilize I-264 (Watterson Expressway) or I-64 as alternate routes to avoid the downtown bottleneck.
Watterson Expressway and U.S. 42 Interchange Construction
On the east side of the city, the reconstruction of the I-264 and U.S. 42 (Brownsboro Road) interchange is entering a high-activity phase. Traffic on I-264 between Westport Road and I-71 has been shifted to the outside shoulders to allow for median work. Commuters using the U.S. 42 bridge over the Watterson Expressway will find the roadway reduced to one through-lane in each direction. Delays are expected during the morning and evening rush hours, particularly for those heading toward the Prospect area or merging onto I-71 North.
Zorn Avenue and I-71 Widening Update
The I-71 widening project continues to impact surface streets near the interstate. Today, drivers should expect daily alternating single lane closures on Zorn Avenue near the I-71 interchange. These closures are necessary for bridge pier construction and are scheduled to persist through mid-April. While I-71 itself remains open with two lanes in each direction during peak hours, lane shifts near the Zorn Avenue and Frankfort Avenue interchanges require reduced speeds and heightened driver awareness.
TARC Public Transit and Fare Reminders
Public transport users are reminded that TARC's new fare schedule, which went into effect on March 2, 2026, is now standard across the system. This marks the first significant fare adjustment in over a decade. While the New TARC Network redesign is not set to launch until August, today is part of the 60-day grace period for TARC3 paratransit users to exchange old tickets for new ones at Union Station. Most TARC routes are running on regular schedules, though minor delays are reported on routes traversing the I-65 construction zone near Brook Street.
