Incident unfolded near St. Matthews; juvenile evaluated by EMS and reported unharmed

A man was taken into custody Monday after a barricade situation inside a Louisville home that involved a juvenile, Louisville Metro Police said. The incident occurred in the 100 block of Wiltshire Avenue, in an area near St. Matthews and Breckinridge Lane.

Police said officers were called around noon on Jan. 19, 2026, following a report of an armed man who may have been experiencing a mental health crisis. Police also said the man had forced someone out of a house before barricading himself inside with a juvenile.

Officers secured the area and requested specialized units, with SWAT and hostage negotiators brought in as a precaution. Police said the situation ended at approximately 3:20 p.m., when the man surrendered peacefully along with the juvenile.

Police said the juvenile was checked by emergency medical personnel and was not reported to be harmed.

Charges pending; investigators have not released a name

Police said the man was taken into custody and that charges are pending. As of Monday afternoon, the suspect’s name and the specific charges had not been released.

The department said additional information, including the identity of the person arrested and the formal charges, would be made public once available. Police did not provide details on whether any weapons were recovered, the age of the juvenile, or the relationship between the man and the juvenile.

Non-Fatal Shooting Unit assigned to the case

The Louisville Metro Police Non-Fatal Shooting Unit is investigating the incident. The department has not publicly detailed why that unit is handling the case, and police have not reported any injuries connected to gunfire.

Police have also not released information on whether shots were fired during the incident, whether officers discharged weapons, or whether the call originated from a witness report or another type of alert.
