Louisville police seek woman for questioning after dead dogs found in trash-filled home

Investigation opened after report to Metro Animal Services

Louisville Metro Police are attempting to locate a woman for questioning in an animal cruelty investigation after two dogs were found dead inside a residence, authorities said Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026.

The case began when Louisville Metro Animal Services received a call reporting dead dogs believed to have been abandoned inside a home. Officers who entered the residence found conditions described by investigators as severe, including trash throughout the home and the presence of mouse and dog feces. Two dogs were discovered deceased and decomposing, with officials indicating the animals had been dead for some time.

Police identified the woman they are seeking as Destiny Morgan, 35. Authorities said they are trying to locate her to question her as the investigation continues.

What police have said—and what remains unknown

Investigators have not publicly announced criminal charges in connection with the case as of Tuesday afternoon, nor have they released details about when the dogs died, how long the animals were inside the home, or whether other animals were present. The investigation remains ongoing.

Authorities emphasized that the woman is being sought for questioning. Police typically use such requests to gather information, establish timelines, and determine responsibility for an animal’s care when a report involves alleged neglect, abandonment, or mistreatment.

Relevant Kentucky animal-cruelty statutes

Kentucky law provides for multiple animal-cruelty offenses that can apply depending on what investigators determine occurred. One statute addresses “torture of a dog or cat,” a Class D felony, and includes circumstances where a dog or cat is abandoned in a building for three days or more without provisions for the animal’s care. Other statutes cover cruelty to animals and failure to provide necessary sustenance and care, with the level of charge generally dependent on the facts and the severity of harm.

How the public can submit information

Police asked anyone with information about Morgan’s whereabouts to contact the Louisville Metro Police Department tip line at 502-574-LMPD (5673). Tips may be provided at any time, and the department also accepts information through its online tip system and the P3 Tips app.
