Louisville police seek public help identifying suspect linked to late-November shooting later reported in December

Investigation centers on a non-fatal shooting in Portland
Louisville Metro Police detectives are working to identify a man believed to be involved in a non-fatal shooting that occurred late at night on Nov. 25 in the Portland neighborhood. The case remained active into December as investigators circulated images of a suspect captured on camera and asked residents to come forward with information.
The shooting was reported around 11:30 p.m. in the 200 block of North 17th Street. Police have said one adult was injured. The department has not released the victim’s name or additional medical details, and no arrest was announced in connection with this case at the time the public alert was issued.
What police have released about the suspect
Investigators described the suspect as an adult man believed to be between 30 and 40 years old and of short build, around 5 feet 5 inches tall. Police also indicated the person of interest was recorded on camera and that the images were clear enough to support identification by members of the public.
Authorities cautioned residents not to approach the person depicted in the images. Police have treated the suspect as potentially armed and have directed anyone who recognizes him to report information through official tip channels.

How the public request fits into LMPD’s broader casework
Requests for public identification typically indicate investigators believe there is actionable visual evidence but lack a confirmed name or location. In this case, police relied on surveillance or recorded imagery to move the investigation forward while limiting the release of other details that could affect interviews, witness cooperation, or potential future charges.
If community members believe they recognize the person shown in the released images, police have asked them to provide information without making contact directly.
What remains unknown
Police have not publicly detailed a motive, whether the shooting was targeted, or whether additional suspects may be involved. Investigators also have not announced whether they recovered a firearm, shell casings, or other evidence from the scene.
As the investigation continues, detectives have emphasized that even partial information—such as a possible name, nickname, frequent location, or vehicle association—can help confirm identity and support follow-up interviews.
