Community Engagement Sessions Set for Tuesday

Louisville Metro Government is hosting two significant public meetings today, Tuesday, February 24, 2026, focusing on urban infrastructure and neighborhood stability. These sessions offer residents the opportunity to provide direct feedback on how the city manages heavy truck traffic and addresses the ongoing challenges of housing displacement.

Freight Mobility Action Plan Public Hearing

The Louisville Metro Department of Transportation will hold an additional public information session for the Freight Mobility Action Plan this evening. The meeting is scheduled from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Edison Center, located at 701 W. Ormsby Avenue. This session was specifically added to the schedule following requests from residents in neighborhoods such as Old Louisville and Limerick, who have expressed concerns regarding the impact of heavy truck traffic in their areas.

The primary goals of the meeting include:

  • Identifying the impact of freight movement on local noise levels and traffic congestion.
  • Discussing potential infrastructure damage caused by heavy vehicles on residential roads.
  • Establishing a preferred freight network that balances efficient commerce with neighborhood quality of life.

The Department of Transportation has partnered with HDR Engineering for this plan, which is expected to be finalized by July 2026. Officials are also encouraging residents to participate in a citywide survey that remains open through March 6.

Anti-Displacement Commission Regular Meeting

Earlier this afternoon, the Anti-Displacement Commission will convene for its regular monthly meeting from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Old Jail Courtroom. The commission is tasked with reviewing policies and development projects that may lead to the displacement of long-term residents in Louisville’s transitioning neighborhoods.

Today’s agenda is expected to touch upon the following:

  • Updates from the Bylaws Subcommittee regarding commission governance.
  • Review of community development proposals and their potential impact on housing affordability.
  • Public comments from residents regarding current displacement risks.

The meeting is open to the public for in-person attendance, with a virtual option available via Cisco WebEx for those unable to travel to the downtown location.

Recent Legislative Context

These public meetings come on the heels of several legislative moves by the Metro Council. Just yesterday, Councilman Ken Herndon reintroduced the “Kids Over Guns” resolution, which seeks to grant Louisville greater local control over firearm regulations. While that resolution is set for committee discussion in early March, today’s focus remains on the immediate administrative and planning efforts of the Metro Government to improve city infrastructure and protect vulnerable residents.
