Incident unfolded near Cane Run Road late Wednesday

A 24-year-old Louisville man was arrested after police said an officer was struck while the man was operating a bulldozer during a late-night encounter in the southwest area of the city. The incident began around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, in the 5100 block of Cane Run Road, after officers responded to a report of a suspicious person who may have had outstanding warrants.

Police identified the suspect as Jacob Geary and said he was operating a bulldozer when officers arrived. Officers ordered him to stop and exit, police said, but he instead drove away.

Police say bulldozer maneuver led to officer injury and property damage

As officers attempted to stop the bulldozer, they knocked on the window and continued giving commands to stop, police said. During the encounter, an officer attempted to open the driver’s-side door to pull Geary from the vehicle, according to police.

Police said Geary then began spinning the bulldozer, striking a vehicle and hitting the officer who was attempting to remove him from the cab. Police reported the officer sustained a visible mark to the head. Police also said the maneuver nearly struck other officers on scene.

After the bulldozer continued moving and officers followed on foot for several minutes, police said Geary ultimately agreed to exit the vehicle and was taken into custody without further incident.

Charges filed and bond set following court appearance

Geary was charged with fleeing or evading police and assault, according to police and court information released Thursday. He pleaded not guilty during a court appearance Thursday morning, and bond was set at $10,000.

What remains unclear as the case moves forward

Authorities have not publicly released additional details about the reported warrants referenced in the initial call, the ownership or location circumstances of the bulldozer, or the extent of damage to the vehicle that was struck. Police also have not released further medical information about the injured officer beyond describing a visible head mark.

  • Date and location: Around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, in the 5100 block of Cane Run Road.

  • Allegation: Police say a bulldozer was used to flee and struck an officer during an attempted removal from the cab.

  • Status: Suspect in custody; not-guilty plea entered; $10,000 bond set Thursday morning.

The charges are allegations. The case will proceed through the court system, where prosecutors must prove the accusations beyond a reasonable doubt.

The investigation is ongoing, and additional details may emerge through court filings, police documentation, or future hearings.
