Arrest follows months after release error and missed court appearance

A Louisville man who authorities say was mistakenly released from Louisville Metro Corrections last summer was taken into custody this week after being accused of committing new crimes while on the run.

The defendant, Kejuan Jackson, 31, had been jailed on multiple allegations stemming from a June 2025 case in Jefferson County. During an arraignment on June 20, prosecutors sought a higher bond, and a judge set cash bond at $250,000 after reviewing the accusations and Jackson’s criminal history. Despite that bond decision, corrections officials later acknowledged he was released on home incarceration because staff believed the court’s bond paperwork authorized placement on the Home Incarceration Program.

Timeline: bond set, home incarceration release, then flight

  • June 20, 2025: A Jefferson District Court judge set Jackson’s cash bond at $250,000 in a case that included serious violence-related allegations.

  • June 30, 2025: Records show an additional court order indicated Jackson should remain jailed on bond after the case was sent to a grand jury.

  • Aug. 9, 2025: Corrections officials later said Jackson removed his GPS monitor and fled.

  • Aug. 11, 2025: The release problem surfaced publicly when Jackson failed to appear for a Jefferson Circuit Court hearing after an indictment. A judge issued a warrant and set a $1 million bond for when he was located.

New allegations include gun, restraint, and vehicle theft

Jackson’s arrest this week stems from allegations tied to an incident on Tuesday, Jan. 27, in Louisville’s Park Hill neighborhood. Police records allege Jackson confronted a man inside a home on Dumesnil Street, displayed a gun, and fired a shot that struck a door.

Court records further allege the victim was forced to kneel while a gun was held to his head, and that Jackson demanded money. Investigators also allege Jackson restrained the man by handcuffing him to a chair and taping his ankles before stealing the victim’s vehicle.

Jackson now faces multiple charges, including robbery and unlawful imprisonment, in addition to the pending case connected to the June 2025 allegations.

Officials cite miscommunication; questions persist on safeguards

Corrections leadership has described the initial release as a mistake made “in good faith,” tied to how the bond decision was interpreted by records staff. Officials have said the department is working with the clerk’s office to standardize bond-order language aimed at preventing similar misunderstandings.

The case has drawn renewed scrutiny to how bond conditions, home-incarceration eligibility, and jail release processes intersect—particularly when a defendant is under serious charges and a high cash bond has been set.

Jackson is expected to face additional court proceedings on the new charges, while the prior warrant and bond conditions remain part of the broader case history.
