What police say happened

Louisville Metro Police are asking for the public’s help locating a missing 15-year-old girl, Melody Williams, after an Operation Return Home alert was issued this week.

Police said Williams was last seen on Monday, Feb. 2, 2026, when she walked away from her home in the 7600 block of Ashby Landing Drive. Investigators said she has not been in contact with her family since leaving.

Description and immediate concerns

LMPD described Williams as a 5-foot-6 biracial female weighing about 240 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. Police said she was missing a daily medication at the time the alert was issued, elevating concerns about her well-being.

Police have emphasized the urgency of locating missing juveniles when there are health or safety risks, including circumstances involving needed medication.

How Operation Return Home works in Louisville

Operation Return Home is used in Louisville for a limited share of missing-person cases that require additional public assistance. The LMPD Missing Persons Squad handles roughly 2,000 missing-person reports each year, with the majority involving juveniles ages 13 to 17. LMPD notes that most missing-person reports are resolved within a short period, while only a small fraction involve suspected foul play.

The department also stresses there is no waiting period to file a missing-person report. Early reporting can expand the window for collecting time-sensitive information such as sightings, video, or travel details.

What the public can do now

Police are asking anyone who has seen Melody Williams or has information that could help locate her to contact LMPD. Tips can be provided through the department’s anonymous tip line, and the Missing Persons Unit can also be reached directly.

Why authorities ask for public help

In missing-juvenile cases, timely community information can help establish a clearer timeline, identify last-known locations, and narrow potential areas to search. Police typically encourage the public to share specific details—where and when the person was seen, what direction they were traveling, and any identifying clothing or companions—so investigators can quickly evaluate leads.

The investigation remained active as of Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2026, when the alert details were publicly circulated.
