Arrests follow vehicle-location technology alert and multi-unit response

Louisville Metro Police said a 19-year-old man and a 17-year-old were arrested after a reported carjacking at gunpoint on Lydia Street on February 18, 2026. Investigators say a woman was robbed of her vehicle during the incident.

Police located the stolen vehicle the next day in the 3300 block of Renwood Boulevard after using citywide vehicle-location technology and coordinating across multiple units. Officers took the two suspects into custody at the vehicle, police said.

What police say happened

Police said the suspects approached the victim and took her vehicle at gunpoint. The department later used automated license plate reader technology to track the vehicle’s movements and identify where it was traveling and ultimately parked.

When officers reached the location on Renwood Boulevard, police said both suspects were inside the vehicle. Police reported that the suspects admitted involvement after their arrests.

Weapon allegation includes defaced serial number

Police said the 17-year-old was found in possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number. A defaced serial number can complicate the process of tracing a weapon and is frequently treated as a separate criminal allegation in investigations.

How the investigation progressed

The case underscores how quickly a stolen vehicle can be located when it triggers alerts or is captured across multiple camera points. Police described using a networked approach—combining vehicle-location technology with coordinated patrol response—to narrow the search area and make an arrest without a lengthy public pursuit.

  • Incident reported: February 18, 2026, on Lydia Street

  • Vehicle located: 3300 block of Renwood Boulevard

  • Arrests announced: February 19, 2026

What remains unknown

Police have not released additional details about the victim’s condition beyond stating the vehicle was taken at gunpoint. Authorities also have not publicly detailed the specific charges for each suspect in the initial announcement, or whether additional suspects are being sought.

If this case proceeds in juvenile court for the 17-year-old, public release of identifying information and some case details may be limited under Kentucky juvenile-justice rules.

The investigation is ongoing.
