Indiana State Police cruiser overturns during I-65 pursuit in Clarksville; Louisville driver arrested and charged

Crash followed a brief interstate pursuit Friday night
An Indiana State Police trooper’s patrol vehicle overturned Friday night, March 6, 2026, after a short pursuit on northbound Interstate 65 in Clarksville ended in a multi-vehicle crash. Police said the trooper and several other people were transported to hospitals and later released, while a 22-year-old Louisville resident was arrested and booked into the Clark County Jail.
Police said troopers attempted to stop a black 2015 Chrysler 200 at about 8:15 p.m. near the 3.4-mile marker on northbound I-65 in Clarksville. The stop was initiated for a missing license plate. Investigators said the driver did not stop and accelerated away, with the pursuit continuing a short distance before the Chrysler struck a gold 2003 Ford Crown Victoria.
How the trooper’s vehicle overturned
After the collision between the two civilian vehicles, investigators said the chain reaction caused at least one of the vehicles involved to strike the trooper’s patrol vehicle. The impact overturned the patrol unit onto its side. Police said all three vehicles came to rest in the left lane of northbound I-65 near the Lewis and Clark Parkway area.
Police described the pursuit as brief, with the crash occurring within roughly a quarter- to half-mile of the attempted stop.
Police said the trooper was able to get out of the overturned vehicle and take a suspect into custody at the scene.
Injuries reported; children taken to hospital as a precaution
Authorities reported no major injuries. Two children who were in the Ford Crown Victoria were taken to Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville as a precaution. The driver of the Crown Victoria was transported to UofL Hospital and treated for minor injuries.
Police said the trooper and the suspect driver were transported to Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville for evaluation and were treated for minor injuries before being released.
Arrest, charges, and an outstanding search for a passenger
Police identified the arrested driver as Lamyaa Johnson, 22, of Louisville. Investigators said that after the crash an unidentified person exited the Chrysler and ran from the scene on foot. Police said that passenger had not been located as of the latest public update.
After being released from the hospital, Johnson was booked into the Clark County Jail. Police listed the following charges:
- Resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, resulting in bodily injury
- Reckless driving
- Obstruction of justice
- Assisting a criminal
- Aggressive driving
The incident remained under investigation, and police continued to seek information related to the passenger who fled on foot.
