GE Appliances outlines $490 million laundry manufacturing expansion at Louisville headquarters, with production expected in 2027

A major reshoring move at Appliance Park
GE Appliances is moving key laundry manufacturing work to its Louisville headquarters campus, a project centered on a $490 million investment at Appliance Park and tied to plans to create 800 new full-time jobs. The manufacturing expansion is designed to bring production of multiple washer models to Kentucky, including combo washer/dryer units and front-load washers that have been produced overseas.
The initiative is structured around renovating and modernizing Building 2 at Appliance Park, where new manufacturing lines are scheduled to open in 2027. Company and government statements describe the project as a first-of-its-kind manufacturing operation for the Louisville site, emphasizing advanced automation and a redesigned production environment.
What will be made in Louisville
The investment is intended to shift production of more than 15 models of front-load washers, including the GE Profile UltraFast Combo Washer/Dryer and the GE and GE Profile UltraFresh front-load washer lineup. The company has said the goal is to produce laundry appliances closer to U.S. customers and shorten supply chains.
In parallel with retooling the factory, GE Appliances has also announced supplier contracting tied to the new laundry plant, awarding more than $150 million in contracts to U.S.-based suppliers for components and materials used in the new operation.
Automation and in-house manufacturing
Plans for Building 2 include an emphasis on automation and material-handling systems, including Autonomous Mobile Robots and Automated Guided Vehicles. The company has also described the facility as vertically integrated, with in-house production of key components such as stainless-steel baskets and cabinets, along with metal stamping/forming and injection-molding capabilities.

How it fits into Louisville’s industrial footprint
Appliance Park is GE Appliances’ largest manufacturing operation and its global headquarters, spanning more than 6 million square feet on a 750-acre campus in southern Jefferson County. The site includes manufacturing, engineering and technology functions, industrial design, and distribution and warehouse operations. GE Appliances has stated it employs more than 8,000 full-time workers at Appliance Park and a nearby call center.
Broader U.S. manufacturing commitments
The Louisville laundry expansion has been presented as part of a larger U.S. manufacturing strategy. GE Appliances has described a decade-long investment program totaling more than $3.5 billion in U.S. manufacturing and distribution since 2016, and later announced a separate plan to invest more than $3 billion over five years across multiple Southern states. Within that broader effort, Louisville is positioned as a central site for reshored laundry production and related supplier activity.
Key dates: The $490 million investment and 800-job plan were announced June 26, 2025, with production expected to begin in 2027.
