Mayor Announces Launch of 250 Lou Grant Program

Mayor Craig Greenberg has officially opened applications for the 250 Lou Grants, a new initiative designed to support Louisville’s upcoming participation in the national America 250 commemoration. The program offers a total of $48,000 in funding to local nonprofit organizations for projects that celebrate the city's history, culture, and community stories. Individual grants are capped at $5,000. Applications are currently being accepted through February 27, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Funded activities must take place within Jefferson County and be completed by June 30, 2026.

Health Department Issues Advisory on Rising Respiratory Illnesses

The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness (LMPHW) is alerting residents to a significant increase in pertussis (whooping cough) and seasonal influenza cases across the metro area. According to recent surveillance data, pertussis cases in Jefferson County have reached their highest levels in several years, mirroring a statewide trend. Health officials emphasize that vaccination remains the most effective defense, specifically recommending the DTaP vaccine for children and the Tdap booster for adolescents and adults. Additionally, the department is conducting active contact tracing for various contagious diseases and reminds residents that LMPHW staff may reach out to individuals who have been exposed to reportable illnesses.

Traffic Alert: I-65 Bridge Maintenance and Downtown Closures

Louisville Metro Public Works and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet have issued reminders regarding ongoing maintenance on the I-65 South bridge. Construction at Exit 136C, leading to Jefferson Street, will continue through the end of February 2026. Motorists should expect the bridge to be reduced to a single 10-foot lane, with wide loads strictly prohibited. In conjunction with this project, South Floyd Street remains closed to through traffic between East Jefferson Street and East Liberty Street. Commuters are advised to utilize navigation apps to monitor real-time traffic patterns and consider alternate routes during peak hours.

Air Pollution Control District: Public Comment Period Open

The Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control District (APCD) has opened a 30-day public comment period regarding a proposed Agreed Board Order with Lanning Chemical Company, Inc. The order seeks to resolve alleged violations of federal operating permit regulations. Residents can submit written comments through March 4, 2026. A public hearing is also scheduled for March 18 to allow for oral testimony before the Air Pollution Control Board considers the final adoption of the order.

Winter Road Maintenance: Pothole Reporting Initiative

Following a series of winter weather events, the city is prioritizing the repair of potholes caused by repeated freezing and thawing cycles. Louisville Metro Government encourages residents to report pavement hazards by contacting Metro311 online or via the mobile app. Rapid reporting helps the Department of Public Works schedule repairs and maintain the safety of the city’s primary transit corridors.
