Public Health Advisory: Respiratory Viral Activity

The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness has issued a moderate-level advisory regarding acute respiratory illnesses across the region. As of Sunday, February 8, 2026, data indicates that RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) activity remains elevated, posing a specific risk to infants under one year of age and children between the ages of one and four. Additionally, the department reports a steady rise in seasonal influenza cases, with over 1,300 confirmed instances since the start of the monitoring period. Residents are encouraged to maintain up-to-date vaccinations and practice frequent handwashing to mitigate the spread of these viruses during the peak winter season.

Traffic and Infrastructure Alerts

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 5 has released its Roadshow advisory for the week beginning February 8, 2026. Motorists should anticipate the following impacts to daily commutes:

  • I-64 Bridge Replacement: Lane closures are possible daily and nightly on I-64 East and West near the Cannons Lane (Exit 10) and Watterson Expressway (Exit 12) interchanges as bridge work continues.
  • Gene Snyder Freeway: A single lane closure is active on KY 841 North between mile points 35.0 and 37.7, affecting traffic through the East End Tunnel for camera system maintenance.
  • Blevins Gap Road: A significant portion of Blevins Gap Road near Saw Mill Road remains closed for a culvert replacement project. This closure is expected to last until late March. A signed detour is in place via the Gene Snyder Freeway.
  • Chenoweth Lane: Construction activities including drainage enhancements and sidewalk improvements are ongoing between Shelbyville Road and Brownsboro Road. Expect intermittent delays.
  • Winter Weather Closures: Due to recent snow and ice, the NuLu bike lanes on East Market Street and segments of Baxter Avenue remain closed until further notice to ensure cyclist safety.
