Weekend Traffic Outlook: Snow Closures and Major Detours

As we move through Saturday, February 7, 2026, Louisville motorists should prepare for a mix of winter-related restrictions and significant long-term construction projects. While weekend traffic volumes are typically lighter, several key arteries remain heavily impacted by ongoing infrastructure improvements and recent weather conditions.

Significant Road Closures

The most notable disruption for South End commuters remains the full closure of Blevins Gap Road near Saw Mill Road. This closure, which began in late January for a critical culvert replacement project, is expected to remain in place through March 27, 2026. Residents and travelers should utilize the signed detour via the Gene Snyder Freeway (I-265) to bypass the work zone. Access remains available to local properties from either Dixie Highway or Stonestreet Road, but through-traffic is strictly prohibited.

In the NuLu district, several segments of the East Market Street bike lanes and Baxter Avenue remain restricted due to snow and ice from recent weather events. City crews are continuing maintenance, but motorists are urged to exercise caution when turning near these transit lanes. Additionally, the alleyway behind Rufer Avenue (1316-1518) is currently closed for retaining wall installation, limiting rear access for neighborhood residents as part of a deteriorated stone removal project.

Interstate and Bridge Updates

• I-65 Central Corridor: Work continues on the major bridge rehabilitation project through the downtown core. Most activities are currently focused beneath the interstate structure to minimize direct impact on traffic lanes; however, shoulder closures and non-peak lane restrictions are possible throughout the weekend.
• I-64 East and West: Final items for the bridge replacement project near Exit 10 (Cannons Lane) and the Watterson Expressway (Exit 12) may cause intermittent lane closures. Drivers should keep an eye out for maintenance crews performing striping and pavement marking.
• I-265/I-64 Interchange (Indiana): Preliminary work for the three-year improvement project in Southern Indiana has begun. While major lane shifts are not yet in effect, increased equipment presence is noted between US 150 and the Sherman Minton Bridge.

In East Louisville, Chenoweth Lane (KY 1932) continues to undergo significant roadway modifications and drainage enhancements between Shelbyville Road and Brownsboro Road. Motorists on Southern Parkway should also be aware of new Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons recently installed near Olmsted South Middle School to improve pedestrian safety; please remain alert for students and neighbors crossing the parkway. Public Transport Notice

The Transit Authority of River City (TARC) reminds passengers that while no major service route changes are scheduled until the New TARC Network launch in August, the public review for the upcoming fare adjustment is now complete. If approved, the new fare structure is slated to take effect on March 2, 2026.
